Bone Health with Prostate Cancer
When prostate cancer spreads to bone, those affected bones are more prone to fractures. A broken hip, vertebrae, leg, or other bone can be very serious and require hospitalization and surgery. So in addition to treating the prostate cancer, we are also very aggressive in making sure patients have optimal bone health.
We therefore offer all our patients with bone metastasis Xgeva, which is a monthly injection which, along with calcium and Vitamin D supplementation, helps prevent bone fractures.
For patient who are on hormone therapy but who do not have bone metastasis, we offer Prolia which helps keep bones healthy.
We also routinely monitor DEXA bone mineral density for all our patients with advanced prostate cancer.
