Signs & Symptoms of Prostate Cancer

Signs & symptoms of prostate cancer

What are the Signs & Symptoms of Prostate Cancer?

Typically, most men with early stage prostate cancer don’t have many symptoms. As the cancer progresses however, symptoms may start to occur. These may include blood in the urine, difficulty urinating, loss of bowel and/or bladder control, weight loss, decreased appetite, erectile dysfunction, and pain in the back, hips, or ribs. It is important to remember - only your doctor can determine if these symptoms are caused by prostate cancer or another condition.

In many cases, prostate cancer grows slowly over several years and may not have any symptoms. In fact, if men present with any symptoms, it often means the cancer is fairly advanced already.

Signs of advanced prostate cancer could include:

  • Decreased appetite.
  • Unexplained weight loss.
  • Trouble having or keeping an erection (impotence).
  • Blood in the urine.
  • Pain in the back, hips, ribs, or other bones.
  • Feeling weak or numb in the legs or feet.
  • Loss of bladder or bowel control.
  • Increased difficulty urinating.

Many of these symptoms can be caused by problems other than cancer, so you should see your doctor right away so a proper evaluation may be performed.

Screening is an important factor in finding the presence of prostate cancer. There are two components to prostate cancer screening. LEARN MORE HERE.
