A hydrocele is an accumulation of fluid around the testicle. It is not dangerous but can be uncomfortable for patients and can feel heavy when standing or make it uncomfortable to sit.
It is typically diagnosed by a physical exam and ultrasound of the scrotum. However, it is important to be seen by a board-certified urologist who specializes in this area.
Hydroceles typically do not resolve on their own so they can be treated either with a simple drainage procedure in the office or with outpatient surgery.
