Another First In Chicagoland for Associated Urological Specialists Doctors
We are proud to announce Dr. Arpeet Shah and Dr. Daniel Gerber, both urologists at Associated Urological Specialists, became the first doctors in Chicagoland to implant a Boston Scientific Penile Prosthesis with the new TENACIO pump yesterday. This new pump is designed to help optimize patient ease of use when using the pump.
The procedure was done in the morning of November 13, 2024 at Advocate South Suburban Hospital and the doctors agreed that everything went very well. This case was the first in Chicagoland, the second in Illinois, to be performed implanting the new TENACIO Pump from Boston Scientific.
The TENACIO Pump is a new pump component part of the AMS 700™ Inflatable Penile Prosthesis, a treatment option for patients with erectile dysfunction (ED).
The pump itself was created with the patient in mind. There is a new grip pattern on the pump that makes it easier for patients to handle. The deflation button on the pump was adjusted in it’s placement, now becoming more prominent, helping patients locate it.
Dr. Daniel Gerber recently completed his residency in urologic surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute, ranked the top training program for urology in the country. He recently joined Associated Urological Specialists and has already made a positive difference in his patients lives.
Dr. Gerber noted after the successful surgery, “I’m very excited to offer this newly optimized pump mechanism for my patients. I expect it will greatly improve our patient’s experience with operating their penile prostheses going forward.”
Alongside his clinical role, Dr. Arpeet Shah is on the AUS leadership team and serves as the Director of APP Program. Dr. Shah also serves as a member of the National Clinical Board of Solaris, a national urology platform, as well as the Chair of the Future Leaders Committee for the Solaris Health Board. He also is on the Robotic Surgical Committee at Advocate South Suburban Hospital and the Surgical Quality Committee at University of Chicago Ingalls Memorial Hospital.
The urologists at Associated Urological Specialists have a long history of performing medical firsts. Earlier in July of 2024, Dr. Michael Herzog performed the first Optilume BPH catheter procedure in Illinois. In January of 2024, Dr. Shah and his team performed the first set of Sonablate HIFU cases for focal treatment of prostate cancer in Chicago and all of Illinois. In November of 2020, Dr. Mark Lyon and Dr. James Sylora at Associated Urological Specialists were the first and only private group in the Chicago area to offer HIFU treatment for prostate cancer.
