MRI/Ultrasound Fusion Biopsy

UroNav Fusion Guided biopsy

A more accurate prostate cancer biopsy

After a prostate screening or prostate exam, the urologists at Associated Urological Specialists will often utilize other tests to more accurately assess the patient’s condition. They may order what is called an MRI/Ultrasound Fusion Biopsy. This breakthrough test at AUS is done to help identify any suspicious nodules in the prostate that are suspicious for cancer.

The MRI/Ultrasound Fusion Biopsy procedure starts exactly like the name sounds. It begins with the patient getting an MRI and ultrasound of their prostate. During this part of the procedure, the MRI images are then ‘fused’ with ultrasound images to help pinpoint questionable areas of the prostate. This is all done in real time.

With these fused images, the urologist then knows exactly where to take samples during the biopsy. This extra level of precision helps eliminate taking multiple biopsies and may also detect aggressive tumors that may have otherwise been missed.

The Urologists at Associated Urological Specialists have vast expertise in performing successful MRI/Ultrasound fusion biopsies of the prostate and use the UroNav system, a cutting-edge screening, diagnosis and interventional solution for prostate care.

The advantages of a fusion guidance biopsy include:

  1. Patient comfort.
  2. Greatest likelihood of diagnosing the most aggressive cells in the tumor, for the most accurate diagnosis.
  3. Avoid over-detecting insignificant cancer that may not need treatment.
  4. Avoid missing significant cancer that needs immediate, aggressive treatment.

At AUS, we strive to take the fear out of the prostate biopsy and put the accuracy in.

If a primary care, or other physician, has recommended that you have a prostate biopsy, schedule an appointment with one of our board-certified urologists to discuss a targeted biopsy using the UroNav Fusion Biopsy system. Likewise, if you have had several ‘blind’ biopsies over the course of time, without solid answers, contact our office today.
